My father recently underwent the Whipple Procedure. Now they are telling him he has high stage 3 or 4 cancer with 2 lynphnodes infected. They are starting him on 5-FU and Oxyplatin. They told him he has a 30% five year survival rate. I wanted to see if this was accurate. I also wanted to know if anyone has survived past 3 years themselves with this type of cancer. I was wondering if anyone has any additional info there is no info anywhere regarding this cancer. It is beginning to annoy me. The doctors act like they know nothing regarding this cancer.

Dear Mikee1214, nowhere in the body of your message do you actually state WHICH cancer or type of tumor you are referring to!

Can you tell us what type of cancer your Dad has?  Many thanks! -- Carol-Anne.

I was recently diagnosed with stage 2 ampullary cancer.  I had a Whipple on Aug. 20.  I am having a port put in next week for my chemo.  This is a very rare cancer.  There isn't alot of data on comparative treatments as there is with more common forms of cancer, which have had clinical trials, etc.  The numbers just aren't there.  This is treated most like a pancreatic cancer, but my oncologist says technically it is in its own class.  He admittedly told me though, that it is hard to know just how effective the chemo will be - having ampullary cancer is a bit like being a guinea pig.
