Hi,

Need help with side effects of sutent.  Mouth sores are keeping her from eating and she has no weight to loose.  If anyone can help with any suggestions I would appreciate it.  She is now 90 pounds and not able to eat much but ensure and shakes.

When my husband'ss mouth sores were extreme the dentist lasered them. At the same time his oncologist reduced his dosage  to 37.5mg . He also  switched to Tom's of Maine toothpaste which is not as harsh as the well-known brands and used an oral antispectic mouthwash, Colgate Prophyl. The mouth sores are now manageable. The kidney cancer message center has more suggestions. Good luck.

Hello,

90 lbs is a very alarm weight...  Pls talk to the doctor to consider the Feeding Tube.  She will need to be well-nourished to fight the chemo drugs.

Best wishes,

Victoria

There is an RX for a swish & swallow that has nystatin and lidocaine in it to help with the mouth sores.

I think it is called Duke's Magic Mouthwash.  I have used it for mouth ulcers in the past.  My dentist prescribed it, and it works wonders!  Good luck to you!

As strange as this may sound , make mash potatoes with skim milk(very little butter) scramble an egg, lightly brown hamberg and put in a blender with a dash of salt for taste, this gives the much needed protein and carbs to help control sugars in the body! My uncle had an ili colo. bag, and was on a strict soft diet and it helped him gain weight! be creative and add other blendable things too, if its too thick add skim or even whole milk if tolerated.  Give it a try, start bland if the patient hasnt eaten much lately their pallet will be off, so start with less flavor and add as you go along. where sores are involved stay away from acidic foods though. good luck and much prayers!!
