My husband has just completed treatment for a difficult battle with stage 4 tonsillar cancer. We worked for an entire year, getting a diagnosis, seeking second and third opinions, getting his treatment, and we are now dealing as best we can with the side effects. This week, I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. I just turned 50. I'm stunned. I will seek treatment at the same research hospital in which my husband was treated. But I can't believe this. Has anyone had this type of thing happen to them? I know God has lessons for me to learn with this opportunity, but I'm just exhausted, and not sure where I will get the energy to keep a positive attitude, and to fight the cancer. I have a therapist, and meditate and pray daily. But COME ON! It all feels surreal and ridiculous. Any words of wisdom out there? Any help?

Hi Caregiver,

I can feel your pain and disbelief.  I, too, have the same situation with my husband's rectal cancer diagnosis in Dec. '08 and treatment thereafter and with my breast cancer diagnosis in July '09.  My husband is still on chemo, but not doing too badly except for neuropathy in his hands.  His cancer had spread to Stage 4 including the liver.  My surgery entailed a lumpectomy followed by radiation.   We continue to live with this and accept what the doctors' prescribe with the hope that we can remain in remission long enough to see our first grandchild due early August '09.

Continue your normal regimen as much as possible.  There is much progress in the cancer field to lead a more normal life than years ago.  Hang in there.

Hi,

Just wanted to say I totally understand -Seems like a cruel joke. A year ago I was diagnosed with atrial fibulation (wacky electrical circuitry)in the heart) that has put me in the hospital four times to get in under control.

May 31,  I was diagnosed with anal cancer, and a few days later I got a call they found something in my mamogram...

I thought "What did I do to deserve this"  Well the lump in my breast turned out to me nothing.  But it has been a roller coaster ride to be sure.

Now I am having radiation/chemo issues (seen my post) I find it hard also to keep some kind of positive attitude.

Just know your not alone-even though I don't feel it 100 %

WE WILL OVER COME....

Everyone,

There is help out there for your breast cancer.  Are hands are not tied nor do we have to stop at the limited knowledge of our Drs.  There's too much to know and the AMA ties their hands.  Try contacting Dr. Salvador Vargas, Betania West Institute.  The email comes up with Google Search.

Hello

There's not a whole lot of things a person can say to you that will make sense from all of this horrible stuff coming your way. I don't believe God has anything to do with it.  He didn't send it and He isn't the author of it. Why is it happening? Because we live in an imperfect, sinful horrible disease infested world full of germs, free radicals and our lifestyles are not coinciding with God's original laws of no additives, formaldihide free plastics and other invasive products that we are exposed to on a daily basis plus what's out in the open that we're exposed to i.e. smoking, factories, gas exhaust, air sprays in our house and what we put ON our bodies that invade our once clean and pure skins.  Everything we put ON our skins will eventually invade it in a negative way someday. It just takes time to pile up and it depends on what you put ON your skin in conjunction with all the other crap added, i.e. shampoos, hair dyes, perfumes, lotions to "smell good": and soften our skin. Think about it for a minute. God has nothing to do with "teaching you something" other than to go back to nature and basics and stop living a life of plastics and other invasive products that supposed to "make our life easier". That's the answer to your question. And keep the faith. God can deliver you from this "lesson" if you get back to basics and also trust Him to clean your body from the harmful toxins that you've been putting in it for years. We ALL have to get back to basics but are we willing to give up our "luxuries?" Most people are not willing. And so..it will go on and on with sickness and "diseases" that are our own fault. Oh...alcohol is NOT good for the body no matter what people say about the bible saying it's good for the stomach.  It says "A LITTLE wine" is good for the stomach"..yeah..when it's upset, maybe . But by and large..it is NOT good. Just eat grapes. It has the same effect. God bless you.

So you have made some common sense points, but what are you going to do with cancer?

Go where it is proven to work.  Don't lose a breast unnecessarily.

Don't have surgery and cut off the supply into the lymphnodes so it can spread to the rest of the body.  Research for yourself.  www.robscancerjourney.com

Just diagnosed,

Sometimes it does seem that there is so much put on our plates, too much, but remember that you are not alone.  Jesus is with you all the time and even though some days it seems He is everywhere but by your side, He IS there.

Since my diagnosis of bc I have hung onto the verse in II Timothy 1:7- For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self discipline.  I follow up with Phillipians 4.  Together they renew my strength and remove my fears.

I think the positive attitude and the prayer will serve you well for when the emotional and spiritual well being is in line, the body can work more effectively.  Talk to Jesus, let Him know you are angry.  It won't surprise Him since He knows everything.  He already knows, but, it will make you feel better to share from your heart. And He wants us to share our thoughts and fears. Stay focused in the Bible, in the word and in Christian fiction.  A wonderful series will teach you new things and get your mind on other things and is full of old fashioned midwifery herbal info too is a series by Lauraine Snelling, the North Dakota series.  I got the books from my local library and they really helped my spiritual walk.  Psalm 91 is in them over and over again with being under the wings of the Lord.  In His protection.

God bless and take care.  I'd love to hear from you.
