Mucinous Type

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Feb. of 08.   I went thru the usual treatments of Carbo/Taxol for 6 treatments.  I decided not to do the taxol consolidation and stopped all treatment in October of 08.   February of 09 I went for my first exam and they found that the tumor had come back.   I was started on Doxil in March of 09 and am still taking it but the tumor is still there and hasn't shrunk at all but they told me on my last exam that it grew a bit.   But...my CA 125 number is continually going down 10 to 15 points each time I have blood work done.  I feel good and just had another CT scan.  It didn't say anything was significant and I go on the 23rd for my next Doxil treatment if they will give it to me.  I'm waiting to hear.   My question is does anyone out there have this Mucinous type of ovarian cancer (Stage IIIC) because I know it's extremely rare and very resistant to most chemotherapy treatments.   1% of women have this type and it's very scary.   I know I will be doing treatment after treqtament to see if anything works and worried about my body getting all of this poison constantly but then again...I have to try to kill this disease.   Anyone have any info on this?  Thanks Michele

My heart goes out to you.  So far I am lucky because my ca125 seems to match the results of my PET scans.  However,  I had a friend pass away with a smilar cancer which she fought for about 7 years.  The ca125 did not register correctly the cancer so she was forced to have a PET scan oftern, sometimes every other month in order to see if the chemo worked

I went on Tuesday for my 5th treatment of Doxil and to talk about my CT results.  They were the same.  Nothing has changed.  Nothing has grown or changed much at all so so far that is a good thing.   They do have a new Phase II study out there for advanced ovarian cancer called PARP Inhibitors and it seems to be working out very well iin patients.   I'm looking forward to hearing more about it and finding out when and if it will be ready for the public.   I would love to get into a study but I don't know where there are any to date.   I feel good.   I get a CT scan after my next treatment and a Muga scan to make sure it isn't doing anything to my heart.  Doxil can harm your heart which is also scary.  But I can be on this for as long as it works.   So I have a long fight ahead not unless some miracle with this new study happens!  I will be there for it that's for sure!  Thanks Michele
