Late Stage - Clinical Trials

My husband is now at Late Stage Pancreatic cancer...it has mestasticized to his spine, spots in his liver and a concern in his pelvic and left femur. He is still up and about... not bedridden but tired... and still wants to ride his Harley!

I am wondering if there are any Late Stage clinical trials. Our oncologist took him off xeloda and tarceva - they were not working. He is without chemo for now.  He is getting an infusion monthly with Pamidronate ( bone density). He is on Morphine 120 gm every 8 hrs .. and Ibuprophen.

We are not needing Hospice, but will have a meeting with them. He wants his quality of life to continue as long as he can get out of bed and walk down the stairs!

He will be 60 in Sept.... and we had hoped for 25 yrs passed our 25 yrs together.

Hi Carol,

So sorry for what your husband, and by extension, you, are going through.  My suggestion would be to contact the National Cancer Institute or the National Institutes for Health.  I would think that one of them would be keeping track of all the clinical trials that are happening at any given time.

You might want to visit the Johns Hopkins Pancreatic Cancer Online Support Board.  There is a lot of knowledge and support to be gotten there among all the patients and caregivers.  Someone there might know about clinical trials also.

I am sending prayers for both of you as you continue in this fight.  Goodluck.

Call this 2nd opinion board of medicine doctor foundation to see if they could advise you.  2nd opinion:  415 775 9956.

check clinicaltrials.gov or Clinical Cancer Trial Match  hotline:    800 -411-1222

Be careful  the morphine is already a lot, very soon it will weaken his organs, his heart...  My mom has 150 every 2 days and  5 months later she is often goes to coma borderline ( 4 times last month ).

Best wishes,

Victoria
