I had a lumpectomy May 6. I had Brachytherapy  the first week of June.  I still feel a burning sensation in the area where the tissue was removed. Some days more so than others.  It swells up and feels sore alot.  Has anyone else experienced this? I was told I would not experience any discomfort in that area.

I also had a lumpectomy and a second surgery for a complete node dissection.  I had chemo and 34 radiation treatments.  I heard about the Brachytherapy, but I had the regular radiation treatments.  I also had burning sensation for months (about six) along with soreness.  This will get better as time goes on.  Now, I do not have any pain unless I lay a certain way, and this could be caused by scar tissue.  I do not know why you were told you would not experience any discomfort.  Radiation is burning of cells, and it just stands to reason there would be some discomfort, more for some, less for others.  I have seen people with burns that look like a bad sunburn.  Type in radiation therapy for some answers.  I thought that Brachytherapy was an accelerated radiation therapy.  Is this correct?

All the best.

Thank you for sharing your experience. yes Brachy is excelerated radiation done internally. I didn't know if the burning was from that or from the lumpectomy. I still have to have the external radiation once I am finished with Chemo. I haven't researched it yet. I overwhelmed myself in the beginning so I decided to focus on one thing at a time. I have learned as much as I can about the Chemo treatment I am having so now my brain can  move on and I can  learn what to expect with the radiation!
