Losing current insurance

with all the layoffs and such, I'm covered under my husband's policy at work, here is my question: If my husband gets laid off or takes another job does the new insurance company have to cover me or do they still claim a pre-existing condition for me? I was told that they have possible changed the coverage and have to cover me.

Thanks for any info on this.

Check with the Commissioner of Insurance in your state. I know in New York State there cannot be a lapse of coverage for 63 days, if you switch to a new insurance before 63 days they have to cover you.

Best of Luck

You can read about your rights here,

http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/newsroom/fshipaa.html  (scroll down to section about preex condition exclusions)

If you do lose your coverage due to a job loss or your husband changing jobs, make sure you obtain from your plan and retain your "letter of creditable coverage," sometimes called by plans a "certificate of group health plan coverage," so you can show the time period you were covered, which can prevent or reduce a preex condition exclusion under a new plan (depending on how long you go without coverage - see above link).

Says page doesn't exist (on link). I'm worried they may drop me if my inconclusive biopsies change to cancer. Also may have to retire and retiree insurance may not cover me.

Some buy cancer insurance but once they think it may be cancer they won't cover.  How awful the health care system is.  I will keep looking in Ohio for health insurance information. Thanks for posting information that you have.
