RE: Avastin??

I have been on avastin for RCC in Clinical trial for exactly one year. I was given "arm 1" which is Avastin alone. It is working!!!! I first tried IL2 (set of two cycles) but it didn't work and it was really tough going through the treatments. The Avastin really doesn't have many side effects (some fatigue). I get it ever other week and I go for a Cat scan every 8 weeks. I am in stage 4. My metastis is in my median sternum, lung, and adrenal glands. Most of the tumors have shrunk a little. One has remained the same. So I am continuing on the same course of treatment. If anyone has any other questions, please feel free to email me.

On 6/21/2009 Joanne I. wrote:I can't seem to find where avastin is used for RCC as a previous post where a girl's father was given this. Has anyone else been treated with avastin for RCC?Hello Joanne I:I am currently being treated with Avastin and chemo after Sutent failure. It is a humanized monoclonal antibody that is given by IV. It's generic name I believe is bevacizumab. If you go on the NCI website, you maybe able to find clinical trial locations of Avastin near you.The interesting thing about Avastin, from what I have been told, is it is especially effective after Sutent therapy in unpublished clinical data.In my case, I am looking to it for a stepping stone to more effective treatments where I am hoping for a durable response.Treatment related side effects are much better than I had with Sutent. (Some increase in blood pressure and dizziness).Hope this helps.Krys
