Lung Metz - what are the signs

Mom just had right nephectomy 6 weeks ago. Having back pain which existed before surgery. Pain is worse comes in waves. She is 77 years old so that also plays into things. She was Stage 1 with grade 3 tumor. Doc said Metz usually go to lung with transitional cell. Chest xray was done when she left hospital.

She is scheduled for follow up visit but not for 2 months. She is really tired of doctor.

Does anyone know signs of lung Metz.

I was diagnosed in December 2007 with mets on my lungs and bone in my ankle.

I had no sympton to indicate there were anything on my lungs. My last CT scan in May showed that I still have some mets on my lungs but they are reducing in size. I believe I can feel a little ache on my lungs occassionally where the mets are reducing in size. One of the mets had reduced from 20mm to 10mm between the last scans, 8 months apart.

Mets do quite commonly form on bone again they are no symptons unless they get big. I had a 56mm long tumour in my ankle which was extremely painful and stopped me from walking. My last CT scan also showed I have a mets on my ribcage and pelvic bone which I had no idea about because they are still very small. The tumour in my ankle has caused some damage to my ankle bones but it is not normally a problem but I was on holiday in Italy last week and walking up mount Versuvius was very painful.

 I wil be scanned every 3 months to keep an eye on the mets.

i am new to cancer compass.  how can mets in the lungs be reduced?  is it a result of chemotheraphy or radiation? or are you undergoing treatment that reduces the mets?  what treatment protocol are you in?

 I am sorry that you have had to join us on Cancer Compass.

My Oncologist told me that chemotheraphy was not much use on Kidney Cancer and I was put onto Interferon in February 2008. This reduced all of my mets as well as the primary tumour. I stopped taking the Interferon at the end of May 2008 but it has continued to reduce the tumours.

I had my left kidney removed at the end of January 2009 and the biopsey of it showed that the Interferon had completely destroyed the tumour.

I had my last CT scan on 12th May 2009 and the main met on my lung had continued to reduce in size although my second met had shown no change.

Apart from taking Interferon for 4 months I did also have an Infusion of Pamidronate for 11 months but this was only to build up my level of calcium to fght the bone damage to my ankle.  

I have my next CT scan in August when I will find out if the mets are still reducing in size.
