My Oncologist might put me on Tamoxifen but after reading the side effects I'm some what worried.  So I came here to ask the question to those who have experience with this drug.  What kind of side effects have you had?

Thanks so much for all you help!

i recently took tamoxifen and it is sad to say that none of these drugs come without some side-effects.   each person is different, but some of the side-effects will happen more often than others.

nail damage....&.....neuropathy is the most common....i am disappointed about both, but the alternative is certainly more uninviting.

you will more than likely do very well.

take it one day or one hour at a time and chemo will not seem so overwhelming.

God bless

I hope the information in the following links will be helpful for you. I'm sure if you do more research on this natural supplement you will find many trials that show not only it's efficacy in treating breast cancer along with Tamoxifen etc. but also it's ability to lessen the side effects caused by the standard traditional drugs that are usually recommended for breast cancer treatment............... http://www.cancercompass.com/cancer-news/1,12705,00.htm ..................... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermented_wheat_germ_extract .........Best of luck.......Sheila

Teresa,

My medical oncologist left the decision up to me whether to take tamoxifen or not. I was diagnosed with non-invasive med. to high grade DCIS last December and had a lumpectomy and radiation I have problems with blood pressure, chlorestral(sp),and arthritis and other things along with concerns about the side effects of tamoxifen. I decided that the odds against my cancer returning were better than the risk of the side effects of tamoxifen. I feel that you  discuss your concerns more with your Dr. and perhaps he can put you more at ease. I am comfortable with my decision and feel I made the right choice for me. Good luck to you.

Nancy

i am just now getting a computer and i so wish i had it 9 yrs ago when i had cancer, chemo & radation. I took Tamoxifen for 7 yrs after my treatment. I now suffer from artritis & have never been able to lose the weight i gained from taking the drug which is one of the # 1 side effects. But would i do it again? absolutley yes, i felt my life was worth it.  just do what your heart tells you & the trust in your doctor.

Teresa -

I've been on Tamoxifen for just three months. I have woken up a couple of times with night sweats but that is about it. I've gained a little bit of weight but not much. At the same time I have been trying to get my Grave's under control so that might be where the weight gain is coming from also.

Can you tellme how the drug makes you gain weight?  I lost over 70# and really don't want to go thru all the weight loss again.

Thanks so much for your posting
