My husband has Klatskin. He just underwent surgery to remove a potion of his liver and two bile ducts and gall bladder. He has refused chemo and believes he can beat this. Does any one have news on the survial rate with this cancer? has any had this surgery and can give me and up date on this.

can yo give me some light on the extend of the tumour  .weather the spread has been there into portal veins and what is the histopathology report says. what is the staging of the tumour. If it is edge free resection and not spread into any surrounding tissues  and the histopathology is well differntiated adenocarcionoma  . then he would not need any chemo or radiotherapy  and he may llive for long. i would try to help if you can give that information

In August, 2007 I went through a similar sounding surgery.  I went through chemo however, (gemstar and tarceva) just in case there was microscopic cancer cells in my blood. The chemo was very mild and I did not get really sick or even lose my hair. I am followed every 3 months, but so far I am cancer free and ding well.

Elsewhere in this forum there is a self report of an 11 year survivor. You have to make lifestyle changes. Don't focus on the reports, they are abysmal and will rob you of hope. 50% live longer, and some much longer than the standard prognosis you'll see in research reports. The fact that your husband was able to have a liver resection is very good news in the world of bile duct cancer.
