Hi, I'm Sharon. I was diagnosed with ovarian ca in Dec. 06. I am allergic to taxel meds and now am allergic to cisplatin and carboplatin. I get weekly treatments of topotecan and biweekly treatments of avastin. They  don't seem to be working well. My cancer is stable and slowly going down. I was on gemsar for almost a year and it worked well but then my cancer stabilized. My hair fell out twice. It is growing in but very thin on the top of my head. I am using x-fusion and it does a good job hiding the bald spots. I have been working all this time except when I had surgery. I am tired of chemo but I can't complain. I also have neuropathy from all the chemo I had but I still push myself to do all I can do.

hi gayle: what is 2729??? harriet

Hi Harriet, 2729 is the tumor marker for breast cancer.  I have that too, but the gemzar/carbo seems to work on both, although Dr. says they are not related.  Have had Bcancer for 12 years, Peritoneal for 3 years.

Hi Sharon,

Welcome to our Teal Warriers.  It's a bummer to be alleric to so many chemos that appear to be working for many of us.  I have heard of several taking topotecan, but don't know much abou it.  Do you get that through the veins and what are the side effects?  I'm impressed that you are able to work through all of this.  That has to be a tough one.  What is your 125?  I hope it is in the safe zone.

Keep us posted on your progress, God speed.

Gayle

This is "another Nancy". I have been a teal warrier (I like that term.) for three years as of July 26 of this year. I was staged at 2B and treated with carbo/taxol after complete debulking. No cancer cells in the wash, lymph nodes clear and all other organs clear. Still I had a recurrance at 14 months after surgery. Doctor said she could not cure me but was willing to try other chemos. I wanted another surgery because CT scan showed one tumor at the apex of the vagina and no swollen lymph nodes.

I found a doctor at a teaching hospital who saw a chance for a cure with surgery (2007) and radiation. I am now in a 20 month remission, my last check-up being earlier this week. CA 125 is 6, but no considered a reliable indicator for me because it did not rise with my remission. I have not had a scan since surgery in 2007. That shakes my confidense some.

Hi Gayle and all,

Hey Gayle did you ever have a brac testing? I did and was negative. I had a pre cancerous site in milk duct in right breast and had a lumpetomy on feb. 07. I never had a tumor marker for that taken, that I know of. Will ask my radioation/oncologist on tuesday when I see her for a year check up from having radioation on it.

Welcome Sharon and the other Nancy sorry you have to go through all this, but we all are and we stick together and go through it together, holding hands, as we cross the street.

Did any one get a fever from Gemzar? I did last week, it only lasted a day and a half, and doc says its a side affect. Which I knew. I got it the night after treatment it went to 100.4 and I called Sloan. Went away by thursday night.

I hope it doesn't come back on this up coming treatment Tuesday.

Terry have a great trip. Will miss you while your gone.

Hey Pam. you seem to have a full house there, keeps you busy though and mind off other things. My father says your kids grow up but never leave your wallet.

Harriet how was your weekend with family hope you had a good time.

Sandy, merryK  where are you?

Hope everyone is doing Ok out there and lets keep going here teal warriors!.

Blessings to all Nancy

Hi Nancy,

I"m thinking of having the genetic testing done.  However, knowing what I will do with the results - if positive - is another quandry.

The only time I have run a fever is after receiving a shot called Leukine to boost my white count.  It really did a number on me.  Otherwise I often feel hot and cold after gemzar and often need a blanket, but my temp is only 96.

When is your next chemo?

hi gayle: i had the testing, positive of course! u just need your kids to know, especially daughters, so they can keep a watch out: earlier mammo's or mri's. its a bummer but nothing to do about it! there is a new treatment called parp inhibitor for ovca, may have something to do w/ that, not sure; harriet

Hi Gayle, and Everyone else readindg this, TAKE NOTE HERE:

Harriet, just told you why you should get the brac testing, GENETIC TESTING for your kids and grand kids, daughters more so. I did for my sister and cousins. All females in youre family on youre side should be aware especially if you are postive in the genetic testing, Even youre sisters if you have?  If your mom or her mom had cancer and they were brac pos, it can run down the line.  My sister says its very important to other family members to know, and know the facts behind about your cancer, for them, for future generations. It could help save a live down the road. Family history of health is the key for your children and there children and down the line.,

My chemo is Tuesday Gemzar only, then on the 7 of july i get the double  dose treatment.

blessings all and get tested if you have not, help future generations!

nancy
