I have Stage IV NSCLC metas to adrenals diag 9/26/08

I finished my first 6 months chemo w/ carbo, cispl, & gemcid, had some shrinkage (10% or so)  during 6 to 8 week break all shrinkage was reversed and tumors are growing

I felt like I was givn up on and I said what next, then was told well I can give you alimta today, be back in 3 weeks for another,  I asked if that was going to shrink or slow and was told I DONT KNOW.

Feel like my Qtrbck is not in the game, getting my records and moving on.  Tere is alot more fight in this single mom.  I have a 16 year old daughter and my 27 yr old daughter has my 1st grandchild on the way.

I am extremely healthy other than the cancer, why do I feel like a lost cause?

Thanks Dorothy

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Hello....I do recommend a second opinon....EVEN a third IF you do NOT like or feel comfortable with what you are being told. These doctors are JUST doctors NOT God and if they are good where you live there IS BETTER elsewhere. Sometimes you must leave your area for BETTER care.....ALSO please rember these doctors work FOR YOU....you are paying them....this IS YOUR LIFE. You MUST be YOUR own advocate. Just because you have cancer does NOT mean you have to die BUT you must fight .....so continue on....get your records and FIND a GOOD doctor.....GOOGLE  LUNG CANCER SPECALIST and go get another opinon....three, four,,,even five .....don't give up. POSTITIVE THINKING WILL also get you far. YOU CAN DO THIS.

Your diagnosis is very similar to my mother's diagnosis. She is also in Stage IV with some spread to adrenal. My mother feels just like you. I am 32 and am the oldest. I have a 18yr and 14 yr. old sister. I also just had my first child so this is so devasting to all of us. My mother was just diagnosed 2/09. We saw a oncologist here locally and they did not give us much hope at all so we went and got a second opinion in Houston and MD Anderson and they started my mother on a new research drug called Dasanitib and it is working to keep the cancer stable. So please do get a second opinion because there are alot of new research drugs out there. This is the only treatment she has had and it is working. God Bless you and I wish you they best of luck! God Bless you and your family.
