Alternative Treatment for Essential Thrombocythemia

I was just wondering if research has been done to see if Quinine can be used to help lower platelet count due to Essential Thrombocythemia?

I was on anagrelide for awhile, but the side effects were too severe for me.  I have been on hydroxyurea for a couple of years, but in the last couple of months I have been experiencing some very unbearable side effects from it.  I would love to find a natural alternative or diet...who wouldn't. I do take prescribed 81 mg. aspirin daily.  Has anyone heard or read about medical research on quinine for ET?

I was diagnosed by accident when i was about 19 with essential thrombocythemia. It was discovered when i had a T.I.A (minor stroke) due to starting a birth control regimen. I have been looking for a "natural" regimen for years & i've heard that a gluten free diet may help.
