Whipple Surgery

I was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in October, 2008. I live in Alabama. I went to MD Anderson in Houston TX for my treatment. First, I was given radiation and chemo for 5 days per week for 5 and 1/2 weeks. I waited 6 weeks, then had the whipple surgery on Feb, 10, 2009. I was their poster child for sucess. I stayed in the hospital for 7 days. I went back to work on April 1, 2009. I work in an office, no hard physical labor. I made a good recovery, but am still recovering. I still have to watch what I eat and I take pancrease MT4 which helps me digest my food. I have a lot of trouble with fruits which I love. I take one to three capsules with every meal and snack. At last Dr. visit, this week, I am anemic and my enzymes in my liver are still high. I go back for the CT scan and blood work at MD Anderson in Sept. My May visit to MD Anderson, everything was fine. I still get very tired and sleep alot, but I do not have pain. I actually am doing really well compared to the reports I am reading here. I am 63 years old, was in good health and had no idea I had cancer. I had a routine blood test because I was on cholesterol med. and that's where it all began. The enzymes in my liver were high. As I was tested to find out why, the cancer was discovered. I am hoping for a full recovery and no return of cancer. I was not given chemo after the surgery and that may be why I did so well. But, I was afraid and wanted the chemo to make sure all cancer cells were destroyed. But, Drs. did not feel I needed it. I hope all of you come out of this more healthy than before. May God bless all of you. The Whipple is no picnic.
