Most people with MM end up having too much calcium at one point.  MM can cause bone destruction which is what causes the hypercalcemia (high calcium).  If a person is having a problem with their kidneys this can cause a low level of calcium as mentioned in another post.  kidney failure will cause a loss of activated 1,25-dihydroxy-vitamen D.  this will then lead to decreased calcium absorption from the bowel.
