My mother is 88 and has just had the first test to determine why she has had a raspy voice. I saw the camera go down her throad and there it was. Even a non doctor would say that it did not look normal. The white nodes surounding the air way (voice box not sure what you call it). They would not say what it was but that it was most probably a cancer and probably squamas cell carcenoma.
If this is what it is, then at 88 what is the prognosis? I guess it depends on what stage she is in. They have to do a biopsy and that puts her under for a general anestisia. Somewhat dangerous for an 88 year old, so the doctor said. I tend to agree but then what is the alternative? Not knowing what or when it may take you? And possibly spread to other organs.
Is the surgery and treatment difficult for an elderly person? What are the dangers?
