Good Evening Anna; What do you think about the FDA stepping in and trying to take away our pain med's?I'm in Lois' corner on this one. Warn us and leave it on the market. We're adults, Stop treating us as children. As we close in on celebrating America's birthday we've forgotten why our forefathers came here: To get government OUT of their lives. Thanks Anna, for posting the information, I hadn't seen it.Take care;Kevin

RE: Acetaminophen & pain med's

Hi Anna,My son was one of the 56,000 who end up in the emergency room with liver failure. He was 20 years old at the time. If the doctors were not told about the consumption of tylenol, he might have ended up with a liver transplant, but the medication worked.I don't think they should take these meds off the market. But I do think the warning should be in larger type or something done so the public is aware of the side effects. If one takes tylenol for pain in the knees, then shares a bottle of wine or consumes other alcohol, they can become at risk.Doctors have always told me to take tylenol because of my kidney disease with lupus. But they never asked me if I consumed alcohol or warned me about the potential liver problems. Fortunately, I never had any liver mishaps because if I can go without taking something for pain, I do.Now, since the incident with my son, I just tell the drs I don't want anything with acetaminophen.BTW, my local oncologist told me she doesn't know any doctors who take acetaminophen. Pretty interesting.Take care,Lois

I sure hope not. I take Midrin for my Migraines and it does have Acetaminophen in it. The last 2 years I've had a blood test to check my liver. Its fine. I have been taking Midrin for over 20 years. In the last few years I've been taking it more though. I also take it sometimes when my sides are hurting from my kidney stones cause it doesn't bother my stomach like other pain med's do. So I'd like to hear your 2 cents on this. What do you think about the FDA stepping in and trying to take away our pain med's?Your friend,Anna Hi Anna! You know there seems to be a hazard w/ all pain relievers - Acetaminophen - liver/kidney probs, NSAIDS (cardiovascular probs), prescription drugs - addiction, aspirin - ulcers.Unless we decide to tough out the pain - or try to meditate it away - we might as well just pick our poison!I try to alternate Tylenol/Ibuprofen/Aspirin and try not to take too much of any of them. I have refused (thus far) for all offers of pain meds due to the addiction risks and I'm holding off until I absolutely can't take it anymore! So there ya have it...my 2 cents worth. Will I be getting any change back? ; )Hugs,Amy
