hello all i have been away for a while now my husband has his serg on may the 5th for the removeal of his voice box. it has been a hard road. we have beed in and out of hospital in dallas texas. i have yet to understand all that has went on with kerrry he would swell so bad that it was hard to believe he was even my husband i was looking at. they say it has to do with the radiation but i do not understand why his face did not swell when he had just the trach now the removal has actually taken place and as long as he was on iv he did not swell but when off he would swell with in a day. we was told he has to sleep in a 45% angle but that is not easy so he still swells. i just wonder if any of you out there has had or known of any one with this problem they say it is nornal but i just don't see if. we are on a feeding tube he tries to eat but he said he cant.
we have a lary tube in which he is to speak out of but because of the swelling he can't get his words out on edge a little so i hope the drs will come up with something to tell me soon. thanks for listening to me sandy
My heart goes out to you and your husband. I replied to one of your messages a few months back , when he was going in for a doctors visit to find out answers then from the doctors, i was wondering why i hadnt heard back from you ,but now this explains it.i havnt been through any where close to what your husbands been through, but when i had my surgery for throat cancer my swelling didnt go down for a long time, then on 2/4/09 i had all my lypnodes removed from my neck , after surgery i was so numb that my ears felt that i could just snap them off,it was the strangest feeling. My ears , jaw line and down from ear to ear on my neck is still parcially numb. When i ask the doctors about it they say its normal that it could take up to 6 months to un numb, well its been 5 months now so........they say its from the anasthecia (sp ) if your husband is experiancing any of that it should go down over time , i know that it has to be horrible for him and you as well to have to go through this time ,but please hold on to your faith it will get better over time . There is a person by the name of mike1s , he iinspired me when i first started out with all of this, i beleive you have corresponded with him as well, hes usually on the ( i cant spell the word it starts with an l ) if you look under head and neck it will list it ,hes the one thats listed as 1 year since diagnose i think he will be able to answer some of your questions he has been through so much and still tries to help others on their path to recovery. Anyway i truly pray that things will get better for your husband and that you continue to have the strenght to endure .god bless the both you.............jr449 (jewell )
