Hi,My name is candida. My 49 year oldhusband had a large mass (non-cancerous) in his pelvic area. Ths mass was only removable by removing the bladder and his prostate. His surgeon advised a neo bladder and the operation was preformed on 5 Oct 2005. Since his discharge and eventual removal of all tubes etc, he is now self cathetrising 3/4 times a day and flushing out once a day. However, the main problem he seems to encounter is that when he goes to self cath.,the uretha blocks and will not allow him to gain access to the new bladder. This in turn means he cant be sure of completly emptying the bladder. He naturally gets very anxoius and upset as ultimatly he could 'fill up' and start to expereince a lot of pain. He believes that constipation could be part of the reason he blocks, but I just wonder if general stress, tiredness or something else, could be at the root of it. I realise my husband has not been through the same truama of many of you, who have not only had to cope with the operation itself, but also cancer. However, it was only after the mass was removed that the Dr's were able to assure us is was completly benigne. Has anyone experienced any of the above or similar problems, do you have any solutions, advice etc. We are natually very worried, and just don't know if these problems are normal, part of the recovery process or something that he will have to live with forever! Thanks candida.
