blood pressure after chemo

My husband is home after 3 (5 day) sessions of chemo but the Neulasta shot really hits him harder than the chemo.  He is supposed to have surgery soon but is not eating much and his blood pressure has dropped to 107/73. Is this too low? He is very stubborn and doesn't want me to call the Dr. I am afraid he will not be strong enough for surgery. Thanks for any ideas

My husband's BP drops when he is dehydrated (and sometimes elevates heart rate too). Is he getting enough fluid?

I didn't have neulasta.  I did have nupogen and that did upset me.  It made my bones ache terribly, I got cramps in my feet, and felt pretty misereable.  It worked though and brought my blood counts back into sync.

I don't want to scare you, but you should consult with your doctor just to rule out some sort of bleeding.  If his blood is very thin, he could be leaking some blood through the veins and the doctors want you to watch for that during chemo.

Low blood pressure can make one feel dizzy and tired.  If you are concerned, sneak away and give the doctor a call.  It will reassure you and that is what they get paid for.  My husband often sneaked out in the garage and called my doctors.  After it was all over my surgeon calls him my "mother hen".  They understand.  Best wishes and prayers.

hey!  low blood pressure is common with treatments...chemo takes it's toll!

you can try beef tea... i believe it is one of the main things that got me through my chemo.

it's an old italian remedy...my sister would drink it as a kid because of anemia....here's how it's made:

get a lean cut of beef...london broil works well...you want a cut with pretty much no fat...cube it into small peices and put into a glass jar with a lid(jelly jar works well). add salt. place the jar into a pot of water with the lid on top but not screwed tight.  let the pot of water boil, occassionally pressing down on the meat to get the juices out..once all the meat is cooked drain the juice/blood into a glass...let cool for a minute and drink.  i think it tastes delicious...some might not agree.  i would drink this about 3 times a day.  you won't get much from each 'brew' but it will be enough to give you some strength and energy.

be well and God bless!

-Stacey
