"Warm" versus "hot" spots on PET scan

This past Wednesday I had a PET scan to obtain more information on a 1.3 cm nodule in my upper right lung after having had 2 CT scans same area.  The doctor called and said that the nodule was "warm" versus "hot" so they can't say with certainty if it is cancer or not.  The next step is another pulmonary function test and a referral to meet with the surgeon.  The pulmonologist feels I should get the growth removed regardless of its "heat" measure, although I could also wait 3 months, repeat the CT (or it could have been the PET) scan to see if the nodule gets larger or gets hotter.  While waiting for an appointment with the surgeon I am overcome with anxiety over the uncertainty and don't know what the deciding factor would be as to have\ing a section cut from my lung now versus waiting 3 months.  How fast can warm turn into hot?   Has anyone any experience with this?

Hi, I've just asked the same question, I just had a PET/CT scan and have 7 cancerous nodes of varying degrees of contrast.

I have 1 that has no contrast,  2 are mildy avid,  two that are moderately avis and two that are flamming red.

If you get any info could you please pass it on to me in a private reply and I will do the same.

cheers Tim
