2nd Opinion

I see most recommend a 2nd and 3rd opinion.  My urologist recommended daVinci...if I go to another urologist I feel he will concur.  Who should I go for another opinion on my treatment?  And do any of you know someone who is knowledgeable and honest about HIFU in Tucson?  Just someone who is objective

Best way to obtain an objective opinion is to consult a Medical Oncologist expert in PC. A medical Oncologist will not be the one doing your treatment, but can help guide you through your decision making process.

Some of the larger hospitals and instutions have a specialist available, and many also  provide a pannel of experts to provide an opinion.

Most (but not all) urologists like surgery, while most radiologists prefer radiation treatment.

Depending on your diagnosis, often there are several treatment options available that in all probability could provide similar chances of success, so it can come down to personal preference after consideration of the potential side issues.

Selection of a top doctor is THE most important consideration, regardless of what treatment or method you ultimately decide on.

eg a top surgeon  will give you your best chance of success regardless of whether you have open or robotic method.

A prostate oncologist will give you the best 2nd opinion and is more skilled in staging your cancer than any urologist. You can call the Prostate Cancer Research Institue or search their website. There are about 30 prostate oncologists in the US and it is well worth the money to travel to see a good one. Some names to Google:

Charles Myers in VA

Stephen Strum in Ashland Ore.

Mark Sholtz in LA

Perhaps they can recommend a good oncologist in your area.

Hello, I agree you, need to see a pc oncologist.  I researched clinical hifu trials and the closest to you appear to be in California.  In Texas, we have M.D. Anderson performing clinical trials As  well as North Texas Urology Associates. Even if you are not a candidate for the trials, the procedure is available outside the U.S.  In my opinion the best unbiased opinion will be from a consulting Doctor who will not profit from your illness, but will steer you in the right direction. Best of Luck.
