Just asking anyone who's had the Thyrogen shot how they did with it and did they have jaw problems or any other bad effect from it. I won't get it until next year, as I will be having the ablation next month...but at least I'll know what to expect, more or less, next year. Thanks to everyone who answers. MissCyndie

I did thyrogen when I had my 6 mos scan this time around. No side effects other than a sore butt cheek for me.

The thyrogen is not the RAI itself... I know when I got the RAI I had a lot of pain in my jaw.

The thyrogen is a way that they can test your body for thyroid tissue without taking you off your thyroid medication so ideally you would not go hypothyroid.

I just had my first Thyrogen shot this morning, too early to tell if I will have any side effects, will let you know later.

I had a ton of side effects from the RAI, one of which was my teeth hurting.  Fun, fun , fun.

I am counting my blessings, this could have been a lot worse.

I did RAI last Aug and I just started my LID today to do RAI again next week.

My first time around I didn't have any problems from the shots.  The RAI made me a little sick, runny swollen eyes for a day or two but not too bad.

I did lose my tase for several weeks

Several months later I had trouble with my paratid glands swelling that was more a pain and annoyance than anything.

Good Luck to you

Hi MissCyndie,

I did the Thyrogen injections for a follow up at about 4 months post RAI.  Went just fine and I had no problems.

The hardest part was the scheduling :)

Best of luck!

Oh, the scheduling!!  I had my shot at 6:30 am today, to avoid traffic, it is horrendous here in North Texas.  I felt OK, pretty much, felt like I was going to throw up most of the afternoon, but then leveled off.  I was tired, but did not get enough sleep stressing out about this whole thing.

Tomorrow I go again at 6:30 am, the sucky part is that I go to work at noon and work until 7:00, can't really take a nap in between, but lie in the recliner and close my eyes for a bit.

I am playing "Lets Make a Deal" with my manager, trading hours so I can come in really late after taking the mini dose of RAI on Wendesday, and just work till closing.

We are taking a trip the day of the scan, (Friday) leaving immediately afterward, Saturday is my birthday, so taking care of my health is my gift to myself.

Happy Birthday Joyfull!!

I had to get mine at urgent care (yes, waited there 2 days in a row)--all of it was tied to when I could have the scan done...

I was lucky to have pretty good sick time benefits.  I was down to "half-pay" sick time, but going without the $$ was worth it to me not to be stressed out.

Thyrogen is wonderful. I did it for my first RAI treatment last year.  Zero problems and felt good from the RAI treatment.  Most people get sick during RAI when they go hypo; not with Thyrogen
