Oh, the scheduling!!  I had my shot at 6:30 am today, to avoid traffic, it is horrendous here in North Texas.  I felt OK, pretty much, felt like I was going to throw up most of the afternoon, but then leveled off.  I was tired, but did not get enough sleep stressing out about this whole thing.

Tomorrow I go again at 6:30 am, the sucky part is that I go to work at noon and work until 7:00, can't really take a nap in between, but lie in the recliner and close my eyes for a bit.

I am playing "Lets Make a Deal" with my manager, trading hours so I can come in really late after taking the mini dose of RAI on Wendesday, and just work till closing.

We are taking a trip the day of the scan, (Friday) leaving immediately afterward, Saturday is my birthday, so taking care of my health is my gift to myself.

Happy Birthday Joyfull!!

I had to get mine at urgent care (yes, waited there 2 days in a row)--all of it was tied to when I could have the scan done...

I was lucky to have pretty good sick time benefits.  I was down to "half-pay" sick time, but going without the $$ was worth it to me not to be stressed out.

I have excellent benefits also (Federal), but last year I not only used all my annual leave, all my sick leave, borrowed sick leave, and had 34 days or LWOP (leave without pay), I want to conserve as much as I can, and Thank God have some flexibility, so they scratch my back, I scratch theirs, it is win win for me.  My manager is very considerate of my health issues, really a jewel.  I focus on work to escape from my medical reality.  With all this stuff this past year, work was my "normal" and I really looked forward to it.  Thanks for the Birthday wishes, it was a great day on the lake, got to help some poor lady, trying to back up her boat trailer, all jackknifed, I ran to her truck ad offered to back it down the ramp, she and her kids were really grateful, but I loved doing it for her, made me feel good.

Thank God for Thyrogen!!!!  I can't imagine having to go "hypo" without it!  I just finished my 1st year post-surgery body scan.  I had 2 shots of thyrogen this go round and 2 shots of thyrogen before my main RAI treatment to destroy the remainder of the thyroid.  I had no ill effects from any of the shots that I'm aware of.

A little over a year after my large treatment dose of RAI I experienced a salivary gland blockage on my left side.  It would swell up and be very painful every time I ate anything.  It lasted for more than 4 months and then was only painful in the area behind my jaw.  However, the exact same thing then happened on my right side.  I still have some pain behind the right side of my jaw.  It's been more than 1 1/2 years since my surgery.

In February 2009 while on a cruise I developed a bad cold and used a nasal spray.  Shortly after I realized I couldn't taste or smell anything.  It's now been 5 months and I still can't taste or smell.  I can taste bitter, salty, sweet and sour but no actual "flavor" of anything.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I did not have any side effects from the Thyrogen injections at all.  Will be having them again at the end of August prior to the twelve month after RAI full body scan
