I wanted to share this information. My son was diagnosed with Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor in October of 2007 the Oncologist told us it was high grade and very aggressive.  He had  7 cycles of Doxorubicin/Ifosfamide, 40 rounds of radiation and 2 major surgeries.  While he was getting his last 2 chemo cycles after his first surgery 2 new tumors grew.  After his second surgery the margins were very high.  His Oncologist wanted to try Gleevec since his cancer was chemo resistant.  He has been on Gleevec since August of 2008.  There is no progression of the disease since he has been on Gleevec.  Gleevec is not for this type of cancer but his Oncologist felt it was worth a try since the chemo, radiation and surgery was not enough.  My son does not have NF1 his cancer was sporadic.
