Got a Second Opinion

Hi,

My ob/gyn dx cc stage 1A from the leep results and suggested vaginal removal of uterus and cervix. I got a second opinion from gyn/oncologist and he suggests laproscopic removal of both along with a lymph node. The doctors know each other and you can kind of tell they don't respect the others opinion much. Do I stay with the original dr or go to the specialist? I'm leaning toward the specialist but my regular guy said that the new dr would have to "follow me" after.  I wonder if he meant that he didn't want me to come back once this was clear. I like my original dr but feel that oncologist deals with this all the time. For this early stage what other diagnostic tests would there be? I feel looking at the lymph is a good precautionary type thing. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? I kind of thought my ob/gyn would refer me but he said he would do the surgery; the oncologist said that he (original dr) was over reaching.

Go with the specialist. He/she is most familiar with CANCER and should be more experienced in the treatment of cancer.  Your OB/GYN seems to be offended that you sought a 2nd opinion, and if so you don't want him as a doctor anyway. As far as your oncologist doing your "followup" , thats what you want anyway. You want a Gynocological Oncologist!    Your surgery and treatment must be done by the specialist, and your followup care after the cancer is gone should still be done by the gynecological oncologist.  She should be your primary care doctor from now on.

Good luck and God Bless
