Stage IV...Cancer free!!

A little over a year ago I was diagnosed with colon cancer with metz to the liver. After seven months of chemo., surgery in January which removed 8 inches of colon and 60% of my liver (no colostomy thank God), and six more rounds of post-surgery chemo., I am doing fine.  I just had a PET scan and my surgeon said "everything looked good."  The more I talk to people, the more stories I hear that are similar to mine. The key for me was having a wonderful, confident surgeon who is trained in all the newest procedures. If he wasn't here, no other surgeon where I live would have even tried. I'd be dead if it wasn't for him.

So, if you have docs telling you that there is no hope, then find another doctor. And keep looking until you find the one that will help you. Eat well, exercise, live life and have faith. More and more of us are beating this every day.

Bless you ! I wish you the best. Keep the Faith and I will pray that you have no further reoccurances in the future years. I just finished my treatments for NHL in my sinuses, but I am 55 years old and the side effects of the radiation are driving me crazy. The outcomes is good(about 75%)that it will not reoccur.

You spoke well:

Diet

Exercize

also sleep and stress

The three things are on the gut diagram in my surgeon's office.

Oxyplatin commonly, as for me, does things to feet. Exercize, in as much as my work, commute, and other life allows, most definitely helps, as does temperature.

It's also very close to diabetes or pre; in fact, I think my chemo brought me close to that point. There is so much in common. Cannot be avoided.

Thanks GOD for beating the decease, I agree a good surgeon is really needed. By the way which state are you from? the oncology that is treating my sister for a stage 4 is always saying that this is just buying time. It was a very depreasing comment from a medic professional. It was only her 2nd round of chemo so we are still praying for her.

Thank you also for posting, it was e very uplifting.

Hello....

I am sure you are right.....IT IS sad to say BUT sometimes we just need to leave our local area and go else where for the BEST care available. My husband fought with me over having to go 2 1/2 hours away from home BUT it made a huge difference in the operation and his recovery. YOU MUST BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE..... Going out of you local area MAYBE what you need to do for the BEST care available. What my husband had done meant him being in the hospital HERE for 10 days...5 in the ICU....His total stay WAS ONLY 4 1/2 DAYS....NO ICU. Recovery months less and almost pain free. Do your research....IT IS WORTH IT.

As some of you may know from previous posts, I live in NJ, but when I had to have the surgery on my liver, I went up to Sloan Kettering.  Can't say enough good things about the care up there.  Had the surgery on a Monday, late afternoon, spent the evening in ICU (I think because it was so late), and was out of the hospital on Saturday morning.  I pray every night for the surgeons and doctors who have helped me this past year.

WonderBAR!  Keep up the great work. Though it's still very early in the game, we're also cautiously optimistic as my husband's last PET/CT scan came up NED.  Like you, he was diagnosed as Stage IV, but so far, not much is happening and the chemo seems to have keep the devil at bay.  Keep up up the great work!  But also keep on top of your check-ups (as you no doubt already know).

Take care and THANKS for sharing this encouraging news.

That's wonderful news! My brother is liver and colon resection post-op and going through chemo with erbitux right now. Still has a met to his lung to deal with but all scans so far show the colon and liver clean and free! He's in Illinois and travelled to Houston for his surgery so I concur that sometime you need to leave your geographical area to find what's best for you and your situation. I will pray for you continued healing and health. Terri Mike's Sis
