Anybody know of long term stomach cancer survivors?

Hello everyone...  I have recurring stomach cancer and pretty much given a death sentence from my oncologist.  I was just wondering if anyone knew someone or others who have actually lived say 5-10 years after they were diagnosed...  I'm not giving up whatsoever, but it would be nice to know if their are some out there who have seem to truly beat this horrible cancer and to know  that I have a chance as well...  Thanks and God Bless....

Yes, there are some long term stomach cancer survivors.  I met one on a trip in Sept. 08 who was 57 years old at the time.  She has been cancer free for 7 years at the time and still probably is.   She told me that she went to a few doctors and they could not find what was wrong with her and thought it was ulcers.  Then the third or 4th doctor found out that she did have stomach cancer with stage 3. The doctor initially told her that she needed to have the surgery asap followed by chemo and radiation.  She was thinking about having it done and a friend told her to go to MD Anderson because they are the best.  Since she resided in Houston, TX, she saw Dr. Ajani (my mom also saw him but it was too late for her) from MD Anderson.  His treatment plan for her was to have chemo and radiation for 6 weeks prior to the surgery to remove 70 % of her stomach in order to have clean margins.  I hear there is more success this way than having the surgery first prior to chemo and radiation.

There are other ways to beat the cancer like the budwig diet which is a combination of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese.  I am really not sure if it works but I don't think it would hurt to try that.  Plus, there are lots of testimonials that they beated their cancer with this diet.   You can google more about it and would need to follow a certain diet.  And here's a video

The fruits she adds are optional.  Just pay attention to how  she combines the flaxseed oil and cottage cheese.  Hope it does work to cure cancer.

So keep in mind, there is always hope.

Thanks, Thereishope....    I wished I would've done the chemo before the surgery the first go around, but I can't think about that now and start regretting..  It's back and I got to beat it..  I know it's going to be hard..  The survival rate is truly horrible for this type of cancer, but I'll never give up and you are right.. There is hope..  I've read alot about the Budwig diet and have actually started purchasing the things I need, so we'll see how that goes..  I finished up my first cycle of chemo this week and will continue every two weeks until they decide if it's working or not...  Anyway, thanks again for the reply..  It means alot...  God Bless...

First, let me say thank you for serving our country and secondly, I am very sorry that your cancer has recurred. My husband's has as well.

We do however, know of someone who was stage IV 11 years ago and is still doing fine. They did not expect her to live for 6 months at the time. They did a gastrectomy and nothing else. No chemo, no radiation, just a death sentence and again I say, this was 11 years ago. We also know someone else who's grandfather is 20 years post diagnosis of gastric cancer. So yes, there really are long term survivors. Don't give up.

Best of luck,

Lissa

Dear Shawn,

Glad to hear that you are full of positive thoughts.  Just always think positively and hopefully that will beat your cancer too.
