Does everyone need a dilation?

Probably spelled that wrong, but I was wondering if everyone that has had EC surgery also has needed their throat stretched. How often? How do you know when?

My husband is 16 months post IL surgery and has not yet had to have a dialation.

Payson, I am 18 1/2 months post surgery and have never had a dialation yet. My original surgeon told me when you start having problems swallowing we will check you out with a barium first which was done 4 months ago and clear. Phil A.

Hi Georgi, I had my surgery last November and had to have a dialation in Dec, Jan, Feb, and March. I have been fine since. I had difficulty swallowing most foods until the last stretch. Good luck and God bless

Hi payson:

I am 11 months post op and yet to have a dialation. I thought a needed one afew months back, but the surgeon did a barim swallow and he said everything was fine. If you start having problems swallowing and it feels like food is getting stuck, then it is best to inform your doctors so they can check forsure.
