Wanted to know if anyone has been taking afinitor for RCC and how they are doing. My dad is going to start next week and looking for any comments or information that might be helpful.

My husband has been on Afinitor for five weeks. The side effects have been tolerable and somewhat different than what he experienced on Sutent. He continues to have nosebeelds and footsores. although not as severe He coughs alot,  especially after dinner and before he goes to sleep. Also he has gotten some pimples on his neck and cracks in the folds of skin behind his ears. Keep us posted on your dad's progress.

Thanks for the information, hopefully this will begin to work as good as the Sutent did for 3 years.  He has recently learned he has lesions in brain though (very scary). He is going in to have a consult for laser pinpoint radiation this week, hopefully it will work because I am under the impression that all these different RCC meds do not work for mets to brain.

If you experience coughing, you're supposed to check with your doctor as it could be one of the common side-effects of developing pneumonitis, which could progress to a more serious pneumonia if left untreated!

I have papillary Type 1 RCC, and after a FAILED attempt with AGS-003 clinical trial along with Sutent, I switched over to Afinitor since July 24 (one week).  I haven't noticed any side effects except for altered taste, slight nausea sometimes, and major fatigue.  I've heard good things about this drug, people.  Most people either experience Stable Disease or Partial Response.

Please post your results with your histology here!

My dad had a seizure which prompted them to do a CatScan which showed mets to brain, not sure why they don't scan brain and lungs when they know if can go there. Dr said if not symptoms they don't scan but I wish they had to try and catch earlier.

Thanks for the warning. My husband did see his doctors. X-ray showed clear lungs. He is taking OTC cough suppressants under doctors' care.
