SUTENT Dosage

Would like to know of any success out there on using lower dosages of SUTENT.  My husband is on his 4th cycle of 50mg and it gets tougher each cycle.  Not sure he can keep this up.  But has had some tumor shrinkage in pancreas but a new one showed up in liver even though he is on SUTENT.

Looking for answers.

My husband was on 37.5 mg , 2 weeks on, 1 week off, for 2 1/2 years before he began to see some growth. He was unable to tolerate Sutent at 50 mg, 4 weeks on, 2 week off. He  has been on Afinitor, the newest drug on the market, for 5 weeks. He will have a CT scan in September. You may want to ask your doctor about Afinitor. Good luck.

Thanks so much for replying.  I have not heard of that one but we see the oncologist on Aug 6th so we will definitely ask.  Did they change your husband because this new drug causes less side effects, or did SUTENT stop working, or does this new drug typically give better results?  Just curious because my husband's doctor told us that my husband would be taking SUTENT until he couldn't any longer.

In April for the first time my husband had growth - 2 small lesions on the liver. In June CT scan main tumor and 1 lesion were stable while 2nd lesion showed slight growth so he switched to Afinitor. Your husband has a good chamce of tolerating Sutent at lower dosage.

I was on 50 mg for 16 months before toxicity issues forced me to reduce to 37.7 mg last August. So far I have been stable and enjoyed a much better quality of life. I scan again next week, with a brain MRI too and pray for continued stability.

I've been on 50mg of Sutent for 18 months and it has worked for me. Side effects were really tough, but somehow I managed to get by. Lost around 60 pounds and  very weak when I came off the drug. I've been off about 6 weeks and feel great and my scan are clear. I was a level four and lost one kidney, tough it out and hopefully your results will be as good as mine.

Hi!

My father takes SUTENT for 15 month, 50 mg, but last month I gave him 75 mg, because the 50mg dose stoped working for him. The side effects are difficult, but not beyond all bearing.

I wanted to ask Sharen if Afinitor worked for her husband better than Sutent did. I'm goging to try to get that new medicine for my dad, but we have to wait until it gets here (Romania). And also wanted to ask if the hair will be lost, beside having white color, because my father doesn't know if he has cancer, so i have to know if that happens. Thank you!

Wish all of you all the bestn and God bless!
