Omega 3 and Tarceva

My mother-in-law has been fighting lung cancer for the past two years and just recently she, and all of us, were informed that it has come back and has spread and metastasized into her bones. We are all very concerned and are looking for answers in many places. The question that keeps coming up within our family is that of treatment. We have been recommended to do Tarceva and see how things progress over two to three months. My brother-in-law is very well read and current with supplements and Omega 3 regimens. We are looking for answers regarding the combination of Tarceva and all Omega 3 supplements. Has anyone heard of this? Tried this approach? We obviously cannot get an answer from any type of pharmaceutical company as they promote their products and not the use of natural supplements. If anyone has any information, personal experience,or suggestions as to finding out the answer, please inform. It would be most appreciated.

Get her on Tarceva as fast as you can!  It has kept  my second stage cancer (lymph nodes) under control for 19 months!!!  I use Omega 3  - only 1200mg 2xday for cholesterol control.  Has not been any conflict; but I do know that when Tarceva works - it is like a miracle.

I have to agree w/ the previous post.  I was diagnosed w/ Stage IV lung/bone cancer in Dec, 2005.  Started Tarceva in early 2007 and continue to do well.  It is a miracle drug when it works...and you won't know until you are on it.

Don't distress about the bone cancer as lung cancer will spread as time goes on....but several treatments are available w/ more to come.  Do ask your onc about Zometa....helps w/ bone loss.  Also ask to ensure there are no mets in the brain, another common site.

Best of luck!

Looks like good advice to me - my onc gives me Aredia transfusions every 6 months and it is doing a great job for me.  Osteopenia gone.

Firstly I would apologise for not contacting you earlier, but I have only just seen your question. Fourteen months ago I was diagnosed with Stage 3b Non Smallcell Lung Cancer and advised that I could only expect a life continuation of 4 to 6 months.I live in the UK and my oncologist initially gave me a series of 10 high powered Palliative Radiotheraphy hits in July. I then asked what further treatment could be taken, but was told that the best thing to do was to await developments.

As I had investigated my problem in depth on the net and discovered Tarceva, I asked whether this could help. I was advised that the best thing to do was to await developments and consider chemothepahy in the near future. Despite this advice I managed to talk my oncologist into prescribing Tarceva. This had to be done 'privately', as the National Health Service in the UK would not pay for this expensive treatment at that time.At the end of August '08 I started on one 150mg tablet of Tarceva every day, paid for from my own funds - a very expensive decision!

In addition I decided to adopt some features for the 'Budwig Protocol' which I had found on the net. This consists of taking Organic Flaxseed Oils and Cottage Cheese daily. Itis based on the work of a German doctor, Joanna Budwig, who discovered that cancer patients all showed very low levels of Omega-3 oils and found that combining Flaxseed Oil and Cottage Cheese allowed the oil to enter the body fully. I only adopted the full suggested dosage of oil and cheese, ignoring the rather questionable dietary suggestions attached.

Well, to cut a long story short, I had a PET-CT scan three months ago and found that my main tumour and all transmissions to the Lymph Glands had disappeared! To all intense and purposes, my cancer had gone! This is not to say, of course, that it won't rear its ugly head again, but for now it's ok. I am still taking the same dose of Tarceva and am continuing with a much smaller maintenance dose of the Oil and cheese.

I would suggest that you look at the 'Budwig Protocol' on the net - there are loads of pages on it - and strat on the Tarceva.

All the best, Please let me know how it goes.
