My husband recently died from Prostate Cancer. we found out too late that even thought his psa never went above 4.0,it had been climbing over about a 3 year period.By the time it was found in 2002 some cells had already spread outside the prostate.while radiation and hormone therapy controlled it for a while it was an aggressive cancer and did not respond to chemo.after it did mets to the bones in 2007.If we had known that his psa was going up maybe we could have caught it sooner and he would still be alive ( I don't know, but makes me wonder). so guys, just be alert and inform you family and friends.

Hi CarolKM sorry for you lost I live in Australia I to have lost a few family members though cancer and lately a few neighbours because of prostrate cancer. My cancer is also the same  aggressive cancer adenocarinoma that you husband had. I tryed for two years to get it treated it started in 2007 with a psa of 4. A few months after a biopsy,  it shot up to a psa of eight. I seen two doctor, in two diferent states to have robot surergy done, but they said I was to much of a risk. I weigh 140klos (300lb) by the time I seen some one to just do an RP,  it was just to late. When  I was told I could if I have an RP done an other doctor said to me he thinks it was a wast of time. that by now the cancer would have spread though out my body, and the fact that three months after my biopsy a bone scan found new little  calcium deposites in my ribes and lower back, seem to say the same thing at the same toime I had a  full body scan it found my GI track was clear. so I walk away from the RP I seen a naterpath then  all I could do is stay off sugary foods and have a lot of vitamin suplemants, like high dose vitamin C. I later went on to flackseed oil and cotage cheese, and a few other things. Ive been on this for 10 month now. My dictor said my blood work has  improved dematicly. When  he sent me for an other bone scan, it found no calcium deposits, but he showed me were they were befor. I allso had urine retenion it cheared up to. My psa ten months ago was 13.8, now it 8.2. My free PSA was 4, it now 8. I feel in God good grace, he has save me. I just wish he could have done the same for your husband. My heart gos out to you I know when we lose love ones like this , it bites in to you very sole. I realy feel to honer them, you must survive so please take care of you, God has  other plans for you take care and be well  Ray.

I'd like too see them start PSA testing along with the rectal check at Age 40 and drilled into men to do them every year.  My husband is 51 and will be blessed to see 52 - cancer was found with a PSA test after aching back at age 50 - one had been done at 45 and was ok - maybe one in those intervening years would have caught the cancer-  His cancer is an agressive variety so who knows if it would have helped but might have given him more of a chance of living longer.

I just checked the replies to my message today,I have been dealing with getting my affairs in order, grand kids and my grief.I am so sorry to hear about your husband,my prayers will be with you.

Dave's cancer was agressive too, that is why the hormones stopped working after a couple years and the chemo did not stop it.I agree that men should be encouraged to be checked every year as soon as 40.My late husband has a brother that was diagnosed about the same time he was and now his youngest brother(age 60) has a pre-cancer   tumor . I have told my 2 sons to to be careful as there is a definate pattern here.

Please,if I can help be any help feel free to respond.

Carol
