Vitamins/Supplements On Sutent/Nexavar

My husband is presently taking nexavar and first scans were good and showed shrinkage. Before that he was on sutent for about 20 mos and then it stopped working. My question is do any of you on these drugs take vitamins or supplements with them? I know that the literature on these drugs suggests that you should not and our onc (like many doctors) does not believe much in vitamins. I can't help but wonder if they really interfere with these drugs or if the vitamins/supplements would help his immune system. Thanks to all you wonderful people on this board.

First, I am not on these drugs. However, I think that I read some where that anti-oxidants vitamins/supplements also help the cancer cells grow. Hopefully, some body else can verify this information.

what do you mean by stopped working? how do you know it  stopped working?  your husband definitely need some other drugs as a
adjuvant therapy and help him against the side-effects of sutent, but i don't think vitamin will do the work..

My husband's ct scans and MRI showed that he had new tumor growth and mets and his doctor took him off the sutent. Sutent generally stops preventing new growth after 18 mos and new medication is needed. He did well on the sutent and did not have any side effects that could not be managed. I was mainly asking if anyone taking sutent or nexavar took daily vitamins or their doctors said it was ok.

Thanks for responding,

Connie

There is a lot of evidence that taking supplements and antioxidants along with chemotherapy and radiation actually make those traditional treatments MORE effective and lessen some of the negative side effects as well. Doing a Google search will bring you lots of positive information regarding this. Here is just one link I hope is helpful ............ http://jeffreydach.com/2008/12/09/vitamins-and-chemotherapy- .....0 _______________________________________________________________

Thanks for the link. It was helpful and very informative. It was my gut feeling all along that vitamins would help, especially since my husband's appetite is poor. He has been drinking V8 juice to get some antioxidants that way.
