why did it take so long to find?

My father has been having lung issues since January 09 - fluid build up around lung has been drained 3 times, 2-3 mri's, 2 cat scans, and a pet scan.   Many x-rays.  Blood work and fluid tested -All tests indicated nothing.  Friday he went and had a biopsy of lung, the doctor that performed procedure said, "preliminary results looks like cancer"  we will get official news on Wed.  My question is why didn't ay of the blood work or tests reveal anything???  I am praying for all on this board. Goodnight.

Did Ct-scan show anywhere else in his body?  If lung sample showed nothing, should try other sites as lung sample could be a dead cell instead.  A dead cell will show inconclusive.
