Megace

I posted last week about my Dad's weight loss.  I just found out the name of the medication they've put him on.  It's Megace (he takes three teaspoons in the morning).  He hasn't started it yet but will today.  Has anyone had experience with this?  Did it work for them?  I know if he can't put on weight (or maintain the 129 lbs he's at right now) they may have to start with IV feedings or something so I'm curious about the medication (and praying it works).  Any information would be appreciated.  Thank you everyone.

My Dad was on Megace and it definitely helped his appetite... he said he dreamed of food!  However he still was not maintaining a good weight because of a very active ostomy and we did IV feeding at night plus he ate and that did the trick... however, eventually was not able to eat due to the disease progression... He is still on IV feeding nightly and now also IV fluids every other day since the disease has reached a point he can't drink much either.  Don't fret IV feeding, after you learn it, it is easy and then you know they are getting good nutrients and it really helped him.  Sadly the disease is winning against us right now, but we are still fighting as hard as we can!  Good luck.  OH my dad is maintaining around 129 now... he was as low as 109 at one point and was around 158 before he got sick.
