Hi all, wish I had found this message board sooner. anyway had my right kidney removed 07/16/09 due to a 4cm mass in the center of the kidney. Results are it was stage 1 cancer fully contained in the kidney. (great news) This is my third fight with cancer in 5 years, thyriod and cervical/ovarian. Anyway had surgery in Jan, radical hystorectomy and now this surgery. Its been just under two weeks since the kidney removal and boy amd I tired. Pain wise Im doing great but I just cant stay awake for long. Up for a few hours and I NEED to lay down and sleep again. This is reallt difficult for me as I am a full time caregiver/mom to a 5 year old autistic child. Hubby is now back at work and I am home all day alone. How long should I be tired like this, I need to be able to function better than I am. I am 38 years old and understand my body is healing.. im really still healing from the surgery in January as well.

Thanks for any info you may have!

My Goodness, you have certainly been through a lot!  Your body is going to take time to heal from the surgeries and adjust to the new state of having no kidney and no "female parts" from the hysterectomy.  Your fatigue is probably just normal from everything you've been through, but I suggest you make sure you're not needing a hormone adjustment following the hysterectomy.  Also, if you're taking pain medication that will make you want to sleep a lot.  Or...if you're anemic sometimes you're really tired and sleepy.  It could be any number of things.  But most likely it's just going to take time to get over all this.

I'm so glad your cancer was only stage I.  With RCC so many people don't even know they have it until it's stage IV.  I hope you're feeling better real soon!

Nancy
