Radiation question

This isn't a "lung cancer" issue but I thought this group would be the best to answer question about radiation side effects in the chest.  I had my first radiation treatment yesterday and one of the locations of radiation is in my trachea in the chest region.  The treatment went fine with no problems but about 10 minutes after I got a sudden hot flash and chest pain that felt like a ball of heat and as time went by it spread out to the rest of my chest.  The residual feeling is as if I've had a chest cold.   I'm wondering if any of you have experienced anything like this and if this is a normal reaction to radiation in the chest?

I believe this is related to the radiation tx.  I hope you've reported this symptom to your doctor. Radiation is meant to kill cancer cells, but of course it will also harm healthy tissue.  Maybe they need to evaluate the amount of radiation you're receiving. At the very least, let your doctor know.

As per Doctor's languages, those are the symptoms of cure. You are getting cure just take that in to consider forget about all complaints and also stop complaining after a while , thats what i understood from my experience of 12 round of chemos and surgery and all those treatment.

be strong , just take it as a bitter sweet mellon.

I still think it's best for the poster to report his symptoms to his doctor and let his doctor decide.  Just to be on the safe side.

Notify your radiologist/oncologist at once.  An adjustment may be required - nevertheless you should not 'bite the bullet' w/o advising your doctor of the situation.....how else will they know?  Take Care.

Thank you for your response.  That's what I thought as well.  I did speak with the doctor who said it was an unusual reaction.  Since it didn't happen again I guess they are just going to watch it.

Aloha gtghawaii, First off I see Hawaii in your user name and if you live in Hawaii < I live on Kauai and just went through radiation treatment that ended April 6th. What is strange is for you to have this happen the first treatment. I had no side effects until 41/2 weeks into treatment and it was jut from the accumulation of the radiation that caused it. PM me if you are on Oahu and tell me who and where you are having your treatments, we may have the same radiation doctor. Aloha, Mike
