The sequencing of the first three multiple myeloma

whole genomes has been completed by U.S. scientists, who said this success will lead to a better understanding of this form of blood cancer and advance efforts to develop new therapies.

My wife has had quite a rough time these past 2 weeks. She was supposed to start a clinical trial with carboflazomib, but her creatinine levels were too high. She spent 1 week in the hospital trying every method possible to bring it down with little luck. Finally, the pharm. co. waved the creatinine criteria and she was given the green light to start treatment. Strangely enough ... her creatinine fell to the proper level that evening so she could have started anyway. So ... yesterday was her first treatment and today her second. Had to have a blood transfusion today and not feeling well, but that is to be expected. Will know more about the drug's effect by next week when she has her next 2 treatments. Hopefully, between now and then she will be discharged from the hospital, but they want to keep a close eye on her and her numbers.

Regards,

Craig

Sorry to hear that she's having such a rough time. I knew she was going through a bad period, but it sounds like it's been quite bad. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Good luck with the new treatment!! And don't forget to take care of YOU.

Very interesting.  I wonder where the research/discovery was conducted?

Thanks for sharing

PS:  I hope your wife responds well to her latest treatment.  It sounds like she's a pioneer with that drug

All,

Additional information can be found in the original press release describing this tremendous success which can be found here:

http://www.themmrf.org/in_the_news/6.03.065.php

The sequencing work was conducted at the Broad Institute in Massachusetts using samples provided by the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC) as part of the MMRC Multiple Myeloma Genomics Initiative. The Genomics Initiative is a collaborative project of MMRC, the Broad Institute and TGen and is funded by the MMRF.

Thanks for making everyone aware of this article.  This discovery is the result of a great collaboration funded by the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation between the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (made up of 15 member institutions) and Broad Institute, as well as the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).  Here is the actual press release from the MMRF/C   :http://www.multiplemyeloma.org/in_the_news/6.03.065.php  For more information about the MMRF, the MMRC and for a list of the member institutions, please go to www.multiplemyeloma.org
