internal burning feeling

My mother has just finished 37 weeks of radiation therapy for lung cancer.  She is in terrible pain, she said she feels like her whole insides are burning, she can't eat or drink (very well) unless she takes the prescribed Morphine.  This is her 2nd week post therapy.  Anyone had this also, and if so how long should this pain last.  I know everyone is different.   Thank you in advance for your answers.

My mom had radiation for small cell lung cancer and said it took almost a month before she felt like she didn't need her pain meds for the burning.  There is a prescribed medicine that helps your throat and esophagus burning pain feel better.....I think it is called Protonix?  I can't remember for sure but it did help her with swallowing a little bit.  And there are definitely better things to eat than others too.  Maybe do some internet research on homeopathic remedies too.

Thank you so much for responding.  Ok so I guess this is all normal.  Is Protonix over the counter?

It was prescription.  What drove me crazy sometimes is that rather than be proactive and prescribe things to help with the symptoms and side effects that they KNOW you will get, they wait until you complain about them first to do the prescription.  Call the oncology nurse and let her know how bad the burning is and ask about any prescriptions other than pain meds.

I left a message with the nurse today.  So hopefully they can give her something.  She is currently on Morphine which has now caused constipation.  Man oh man!

It sure is one thing after another.   So thankful you can help out with this while your Mom is maybe too sick to have the energy.    My children provide me with that kind of help, even if it's just being there.   That support is almost physical.    One step at a time.  Just keep calling that nurse or remembering next time to ask for prescriptions in advance in case you'll need them so there's less drag time.   This will soon pass.    With my chemo I have to fight constipation and I started putting a teaspoon of fiber into a bit of chocolate proten drink and drinking it quick.
