Blood clots

My son has been told to watch for blood clots while he is on Revlimed, but has not been told what the symptoms might be indicating a blood clot. He  went to clinic today and was having bad leg cramps and severe pain on the bottom of one of his feet. To me the leg cramps could indicate blood clots, but the nurses were not concerned and did not have him checked. Has anyone suffered blood clots during treatment and if so what were the symptoms?

Someone asked me if he sees a multiple myloma specialist and the answer is no. He sees an oncologist every three months and other than that only the nurses at the clinic. I hate to say this but it seems that they just do not give him the attention they did when he was first diagnosed.  He suffered brain damage to his frontal lobe during siezures following his last transplant and he does not have the capability to participate in his treatment like he did before this happened.

thanks for caring and talking to me.

 Supportive mom, Irene

Hello Irene,

I was told to take baby aspirin daily before I started Velcade which also causes blood clots.  Pain behind the knee, pain in the calf, shortness of breath, chest pain, swelling redness or tenderness of the arms or legs. Bottom of the feet would be unusual but not impossible I guess. I would get the doc to go over the symptoms so you will know.. My best to both you and your son.  Gayle

Good Morning Irene;

Someone asked me if he sees a multiple myloma specialist and the answer is no.

Get him to a MM specialist! He can still continue to see his local onc doctor. But this beast is too individualistic to depend solely on the advice of a onc doctor

He sees an oncologist every three months.

He should see a specialist this often. His local should be seen monthly.

And other than that only the nurses at the clinic.

Don't under estimate nurses' knowledge and advice. These gals, at times, are more knowledgable than the docs.

Take care;

Kevin
