fluid in the lungs

My husband was diagnosed with advanced renal cell in early May 2009.  He was born with one kidney.  He has fluid in the left lung which has been drained twice and we now have to make a decision if he should see a thoracic surgeon to put the med into the lung.  He started taking Sutent shorly after his diagnosis, starting with25 mg and then to 37.5 and now he is on 50 mg for the past 3 weeks.  He has not time off from the Sutent. WE are hoping that the Sutent will clear up the fluid.  He is extremely tired and a little nausus with stomach upsets.  He has pain in his pelvis due to a mass in the bone.  Has anyone had the interlukin 2 treatment.  His doctor spoke about it and he would likely have that treatment at some time.  I wish all of you well.  Thank you for your response.

Well--let me start out by saying that you may hear allot of stories about how bad IL2 is. And in many people's eyes it is just that. It is not a vacation and can be really tough on a body. But remember this--when leave after the treatment it is pretty much over and you feel better within a week. The chance that it can kill and hold off this cancer is remote and for that reason it MUST be a personal decision. I am 44 years old stage IV with mets to lungs and lymph system. Stopped it pretty well for me--went through 5 cycles and had to stop due to liver issues. Still holding as I write this--about a year or so. Just remember there are many things out there now--so hand in there. Bob M.

Thank you for your helpful message.  We do know about how difficult the IL2 treatment is.  For now, my husband has no new growth, except for the problem in his left lung with fluid.  He starts radiation this week and hopes that it will help with the bone pain in the pelvic area.

I wish you well...you are so young...keep strong.
