I hope someone out there can give me some advice. My 39 year old brother has just had an endoscopy and was told his esophagus is grey the doc took biopsy and told him he would let him know. Should he be worried? My dad passed 4 months ago with stomach cancer. He passed within 5 months from diagnosis. My other brother who is 35 has barretts esophagitis, and a hiatus hernia. The whole family has reflux problems but my 39 year old brother is a smoker, a drinker and doesn't have a very good diet.Does anyone have any advice. Thank you in advance. Cheers Karen

now that your brother has undergone endoscopy you should wait for the biopsy results. worrying at this stage is not going to change the outcome except stress everyone out.

best of luck and hope the biopsy result is negative.

So sorry to hear of your family's problems with acid reflux, and your loss of your father.  Try to keep positive thoughts even though it is going to be hard.   Wait for the results of the tests and know that there are many treatments available for people.  Your other brother with Barretts should be on medication too.  Perhaps this scare will help your brother to cut down on drinking and smoking.  Smoking is very difficult to stop, but it is possible.  My husband quit after learning he needed 5 by-passes and a new aortic valve.  He was never able to quit before that and when he got the diagnosis, he put cigs down, got the patch and that was it.  He is now a non-smoker.

Best wishes to you and your family.  Please let us know what the diagnosis is when you find out.  God bless you.
