Uncertain about mass

I have just seen a urologist who chastised me for wasting time and money in seeking an answer concerning the small mass found on my kidney. I was told it could be a cyst and to wait 6 months, have another ultra-sound and go from there. He told me I have a  50/50 chance of it being a cyst. This advice seems strange and told me to cancel the MRI ordered by my primary physician. I am not comfortable with his diagnosis and do not know if I should cancel the MRI or not.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, my Goodness, I agree with you 100%!!  Get the MRI!!  You can't ever take these things for granted.  If it is cancer, it is so much better to catch it early and start treatment than wait for it to get worse and then just hope the treatment works.  The sooner you can catch these things, the better the outcome.  I'd never see that doctor again!!

When my PCP told me that the ultra sound exam revealed a mass in my kidney, he wasted no time in sending me to a urologist. The urologist promptly requested a CT Scan. They both told me that it was unlikely that it was a cyst. However, get a copy of the radiologist report and see what it says and then get a scan. Then see if the scan verifies the urologist opinion.

I have had many ultra-sounds and ct scans over the years, I have cysts in my remaining kidney. A good radiologist can easily tell the difference between a clear cell cyst and a tumor from a ct- scan NOT FROM AN ULTRA-SOUND. You need to be seeing an oncologist (preferably one that is familiar with RCC) not a urologist. Keep the appointment it is not his life!!!!!

Hi

It is probably a Cyst in your kidney they are common but you should continue with the scan to be certain.

I had my left kidney removed due to cancer and before they removed it I had a function test on my right kidney because that has a cyst. The test showed the cyst was not interfering with the operation of the kidney so it was safe to remove the leftone.

I would get me a new doctor immediately.  This is your life you are talking about not his.  I would go ahead and get the MRI.  It is better to be safe than sorry.
