From Anna,

Hi all, Dad started chemo again yesterday.  He's on a small amount of Revlimid and Dex.  So far he's ok.

Hi Anna i was on these two chemos as well. I didn't have any side effects from these two. The only thing is that it didn't work for me. My dr then tried revlimind and velcade together. I developed an alergic reaction in one of my lungs. I had to be admitted and a lung wash was done. It sounds worse than it was. But still i wanted you know what happened to me. I finally got a stem cell transplant. It was very successful. For how long i don't know. Only God knows that. Has your dr said anything about a transplant? Keep your faith. God has a plan. Poppy

Hi, Anna

I'm glad to hear your dad started treatment again, and that he's feeling well. The Revlimid is wonderful - I've been on it since Dec. with no side effects. The dexamethasone got me, though., I was very ill in April, and had to be off the dex completely for a couple of months. He started me back on it about a month ago, but 20 mg. a week, not 40. If your dad starts to have any reactions, it will most likely be to the dex, but if he is on a low dose, he may not have any side effects at all. Good luck to all of you!

Mary Ann

From Anna,

Hi Poppy, Thought you already knew this from me, Dad had 2 stem cell transplants almost 11 years ago now that put him in remission for about 5 years.  He's been out of remission going on 7 years now.  He's been off and on chemo for all these almost 7 years.  He's been off a year due to jaw bone surgery then been sick this year.  His protein just recently went up to 1 again so the Dr. put him back on it.

Anna

From Anna,

Hi Mary Ann, I just found out his dosage this time. They are 40mg of Revilmid and 20mg Dex.  I think that's right on the dosage.  He will take the Revlimid for 21 days and the Dex once every 7 days.  On top this though he takes pain med's daily and a med for his stomach.  I think that's all.

Anna

Well of course I knew he had transplants now that you have reminded me. But I was told that I have "chemo brain"! So I have an exuse! So if my math is right your Dad has been fighting MM for at least 23 years. Is that right? If this is so then he is some fighter! The last time I was checked my protein was 0.9. But this was about 30 days post transplant. The doc said it should be lower next time we check. Revlimid and Velcade seem to me to be very good chemos. The Velcade worked for but the Revlimid didn't. Stay away from Thalidimide. It caused permanent damage to my feet and legs with neropathy(sp). But it kicked butt on the MM. Sorry for the confusion. Poppy

Hi Poppy, No dad's had it almost 11 years that we know of.  Maybe 13 - 15 in all.  Cause the 3 of think he had it for 2 - 4 years before they said he had it.  Dad has chemo brain to.  He has taken Velcade and Thalidomide before.  He does have the Neuropathy in his hands and feet.  They stopped the Thalidomide because he developed blood clots.  The Velcade helped for a while then it didn't.
