My 77 year old father was diagnosed with stage 3b lung cancer in Jan '08, He has been on Tarceva for about 3 weeks now, he is experiencing mouth sores as well as dizziness. Has anyone else had similar side effects? He has a collapsed right lung (the one with the tumor) with full function of the other lung, he has recently been taking oxygen on a regular basis. Apparently the cancer has grown but not spread outside of his right lung. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

I don't know about the dizziness, but, mouth sores are common with Tarceva as well as many other treatments.

Have him checked for anemia. My mother needed a blood transfusion while taking Tarceva-- I don't think this is a common side effect. I thought her breathlessness was due to her cancer, but at the time it was not. The transfusion made a huge difference. Also, there are special mouth washes to treat mouth sores. Ask for a prescription. Roz
