Hi,

Most disability plans require that you are physically unable to work.  That will normally not happen until after your surgery.  If you have chemo, you can usually continue to collect during that because you may have a compromised immune system as well as side effects.  Ask for the paperwork at work and bring it with you to your next dr. appt.  Go online under your State Dept. of Insurance and you may be able to get specific details about your state plan.  My state does not have state disability insurance but I have my own plan.  I only missed 5 days of work after surgery (partial mastectomy) and worked thoughout my radiation treatments.  I did not have chemo.  Good luck.

Hi, I was placed on short term disability when I was unable to work due to stage 4 bc..I had surgery and chemo while out on disability. It depends on the insurer. you may need to call the disability company to find out for sure. hope this helps. good luck to you..may God be with you !!
