Chemo induced diarrhea

My husband has been on Sutent for 9 months and diarrhea is a chronic side effect.  Immodium helps but not consistently enough to predict.  Has anyone found a product or diet to combat diarrhea?

Hi,  My husband had the same experience.  He always wanted to wait until it felt like he was getting diarrhea before he took the Immodium....which is too late.  He had the worst time the last 2 weeks so he just started the Immodium 3X a day on his 3rd week of Sutent.  Hope this helps.  My best to you.   Bookmum

My ONC prescribed Lomotil  5 MG 4 times a day(actually the generic version) it helped a lot. I take in addition to Immodium usually towards the end of the 28 day cycle. I take 37.5 Sutent have been for 14 cycles (seems like forever). It is important to keep fluid levels high and I take a fiber supplement.

best regards

That would seem to be the logical answer, but the additional fiber holds fluid and kind of slows thinks down a bit.

I have been on 50mg of Sutent, 4wks on 2 wks, off for 28 months.  I get hand and foot syndrome from the Sutent.  To reduce the pain of walking, I also take hydrocordone 10-325 (a mild opiate and tylenol pain reducer).  Since I had one kidney removed, I wanted a low dose of tylenol in the hydrocordone. The hydrocordone usually causes constipation, however for me, the combination of Sutent + hydrocordone balances out during the time that I take Sutent.  During the 2 wls off of both Sutent and hydrocordone, I have mild diarrhea for about one wk for which I take immodium a couple of times.

The only thing I have found to work is Anti-Diarheal caplets from the Dollar General Store.  They work like a charm.
