My mom(66) was just diagnosed with endometrial stromal sarcoma, high grade. She had an emergency Hysterectomy with exploratory a month ago. The tumor had eaten through the Uterine wall. They took a PET Scan and that has concluded that currently she is cancer free. We would love any advice on how to proceed next. I understand Chemo., Radiation, Hormone therapy, any and or all of the above. Is there any one that has had a similar situation? They are going to do a blood test once a month to see if the cancer has reoccurred and if her INSURANCE will cover it another PET Scan in 6 months. Any help is appreciated. Gpie
I have heard of patients with this same diagnoses being totally cancer free after a hysterectomy since the malignant cells are isolated to the inside lining of the uterus. Your mother was lucky to have a physician who is very skilled and competent to be able to identify this and intervene in a timely manner to enable her to be able to delete cancer treatment such as chemo and radiation from her plan of care. You all are very blessed!
